Wise counsel

Oooo weeee this generation is something different, I tell you!

How many times do you hear this comment from the elderly?… Well I hear it almost every time I’m in church and I’m hear to tell you that’s three, fo’ times a week (Fo’ means four) …It’s rare these days that you see a young person seeking advice from any older person or even simply listening to what they have to say.

I’m not one of them, and this ain’t that! I love talking to older people, with time and discipline I learned to listen to the things they say. There’s one thing I’ll never forget, one day a elderly lady told me “I’ve seen 23 but you haven’t seen 88″… That one statement put a whole new spin on my life as I knew it.

The stories and advice you can gather from parents, aunts, uncles, and elderly people is timeless.. The bible says There is NOTHING new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9) Which means you can always find an older person who experienced something similar to what you went through or are going through… Talking/listening to someone older and wiser causes you to be blessed with wisdom. The bible also says Take good counsel and accept correction- that’s the way to live wisely&well. (Proverbs 19:20)

As younger people we have to learn to listen to what the older people have to say. And adopt some of their ways. Their way of Integrity and Loyalty, their way of honesty and humbleness, and most importantly their patience and wisdom…

  1. I love talking to older people, especially the elderly. I used to get annoyed with my grandparents stories; but now that I’m older, I listen to them and take their advice and wisdom more seriously.
